Bring diversity to genre films!
Help an up-and-coming female Mexican director make an ambitious sci-fi short film.
Windows, a sci-fi short film A Project of Shorts
Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Maru Buendia-Senties. I am an award-winning writer/director with an MFA from UT-Austin in Film Production, currently based in Los Angeles. After graduating, I worked for three years in the Visual Effects Department for Director Robert Rodriguez.
My latest sci-fi short, Windows, has been chosen as one of four projects to receive partial funding as part of NALIP's Latino Lens incubator program and a donation from YOU will help us reach full funding and make this project a reality!
"Two isolated women bond by sharing their lives from a distance through their apartment windows. They are blocks apart, but despite their efforts, will never meet. Two women. Two windows. Two realities."
Windows is a near-future science fiction short that deals with the currently emerging technologies of computer-human interface and artificial intelligence. This project aims to be an entertaining exploration of the personal impact these technologies may have on our lives. Windows is an appetizer to a larger story. A story, that will be an entertaining and meaningful contribution to this discussion.
In addition to the importance of technology to our story, it is equally important for us to portray diversity. We are excited to be working with NALIP and to be a part of their tireless efforts to support and promote Latino filmmakers. Windows is a bilingual film with characters speaking both English and Spanish. Our larger story behind this short, involves characters from around the world. This is an important aspect to our story as the emergence of these technologies has implications for the entire human race.
Windows is an ambitious project and we are very lucky to be collaborating with industry professionals willing to donate their time and expertise. These professionals include award-winners with credits such as: Game of Thrones, Boyhood, Predators, and The Hobbit, just to mention a few. In addition to portraying emerging technologies, we are proud to be working with 8i Labs to shoot the climax of Windows using their groundbreaking virtual reality technology.

Help us make this a reality while making a difference!
Making any film is not cheap and this is especially true for a visual FX heavy film like Windows so we are currently seeking donations of cash, equipment, materials, services, locations, and food. In addition to helping us make this exciting project a reality, your donation would also promote diversity on the screen and behind the camera, by supporting the careers of our female creatives.
Windows will be screening at the NALIP Media Summit, in L.A. on June 23rd and later, on HBO Latino.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about our project. Low budget projects like Windows are only possible thanks to the generosity of people like YOU. We are grateful for your donation and are excited to count you as a collaborator Thank you for making a difference!
