Saving Zero A Project of TV & Web Series

A gay dad, founder of a Texas ranch for adults with autism, takes on a charismatic, possibly pathological teen.

I'm Dan Burns, father of a severely autistic child and lead screenwriter for an upcoming web series, "Saving Zero." I co-founded Hope Ranch for autistic teens and young adults in the spring of 2012. "Saving Zero" is based on our challenges and adventures, re-imagined to include comedy, fantasy, magic, music, and suspense.

About 2% of the kids in America are diagnosed with autism by their 4th birthday. Totals are rising. How can we raise and care for this expanding generation of autism spectrum individuals? What do autistic kids, teens, and young adults give back to the society that supports them? And how are they reshaping our lives? Those are the questions I explore in "Saving Zero."

Talent and production crew at KD Studios and Conservatory in Dallas have been contributing their time, some on SAG-AFTRA deferred payment agreements, because they believe in the project. We have already begun shooting. Now we need $40,000 to finish the project of 6-8 episodes. We've received our first pledge of a generous tax deductible contribution.

Few if any imaginative works of art that I know of portray autistic kids at the lower end of the spectrum like my son Ben. Yet these delightful teens and young adults have much to give to society in terms of their love, humor, and friendship. Let's paint the full picture of life with autism.
